Two beginners' hike: Pinhoti Loop

May 10-12, 2011 (Pictures included)

First off, Id like to thank alatrails for all the information in the past year to help me get started with kayaking and hiking in Alabama. So here’s the trip report. Sorry for its length, it’s a long one.

Both my girlfriend and I had an amazing time. The views of mountains and creeks was nothing we'd ever seen before.

Day One
We unloaded our gear at the Randolph Trailhead at 10:00am. My pack weighed in at around 40 lbs., Donna's at 25 lbs. Heading down FS201, we were in about 1/4 mile when I realized I had left the map on top of the vehicle.

Sunday Feb. 13, 2011

Sunny, 40 degrees 9:00 AM

An easy 2 mile round trip to Cheaha Falls from the parking lot at SR 281.

The Cheaha Creek was flowing full with pristine water and the falls were not

Pinhoti Trail section 8 hike

Tues., Feb 8

North to south section 8 complete

FS 500 trailhead clear, 30 degrees, 7:00 AM

No other vehicles at the parking lot and no encounters with anyone for the 9.5 miles,

even though the trail was well used and easy to follow. the marking was adequate for

even beginner hikers and my partner and I had no difficulty on any part with maybe

the only exception being unattentive on the fire break trail that comes out to the

power line clearing about half way to the first SR 281 crossing and not at first noticing
