PA -AT is set, And I might to a weekend or 2 in Shenadoah too.
Submitted by flemdawg1 on Thu, 07/23/2009 - 6:44pmWell everything is set for my AT section from Swatara Gap to Duncannon. 2.5 days, 37 miles. Can't wait.
On another note, have another business trip that'll take me to the Tidewater area of Virginia for 2-3 weeks. Shenandoah NP is ~2.5 hours away and since I'll not be able to get home for the weekends, I'm definately thinking of doing some sectioning on the AT there. I've even got a fellow engineer coming on the trip whose also a AT section hiker. So maybe I'll have some compant and save $ on shutlles as well.

Next up Pennsylvania AT.
Submitted by flemdawg1 on Sat, 07/18/2009 - 11:08pmI have another business trip coming up and since I'll be within 150 miles of the AT, why not take a couple of days for a quickie section. The plan is to get a shuttle from Duncannon, PA, probably parking at the famous Doyle Hotel. And hike from Swatara Gap staying out to nights and coming into Duncannon and spend the night@ the Doyle before flying out Sunday. I'm really stoked about getting out for some summer hiking w/out the near death experience of 100 degree heat indexes.

My Sipsey Wilderness 2-night loop
Submitted by flemdawg1 on Thu, 07/02/2009 - 11:58amThe short version: hiked, waded and bushwacked 2 days on the Sipsey and Little Ugly Creeks seeing all the sights I could until heat, chafing, and a overgrown trail sent me home a day early.
Longer version:

4-day Sipsey Hike coming up.
Submitted by flemdawg1 on Mon, 06/15/2009 - 11:38amI'm going to Columbus, MS from Huntsville tomorrow to meet w/ a contractor, then on the way home Wednesday evening I'm stopping in the Sipsey Wilderness for a 3-night hike arouund the Wilderness area. Probably going to go from the Sipsey Rec Area go up the west side of the Sipsey up to 206, exploring each feeder along the way as time permits. Then come come to Bee Branch canyon go up West Bee then try to find a way up to 205. Then go 223 to 210 and following that south to 200 at Borden Creek and finishing the loop back at the Rec area.
Gear to test:
