Section 10 of the Pinhoti Trail

Two backpacking friends and myself packed the Pinhoti trail this weekend from Pine Glen Campground to the Burns Trailhead.  We covered about 16.5 miles under partly cloudy skies and moderate temperatures.  The trail was in excellent condition and well marked except a small section prior to FS 540 but even that was not a big deal.  You will go by three lakes on the trip-Sweetwater, Coleman and Choccolocco.  In my opinion the best part of the hike was the area where the trail goes through Chipmunk Canyon.

Thompson Creek and the Sipsey River Trail

Curbie the wonder dog and I got up early Saturday morning and drove up to the Sipsey Wilderness which is north of Double Springs. We took 195North out of Double Springs until we hit County Road 23 at around mile marker 23. We turned left and went down a couple of gravel Forest Service roads until it dead ended at the Thompson Trail Head.

Chinnabee Silent Trail

I hiked the Chinnabee Silent Trail yesterday on an out and back trip.  I started at 6 am to beat the oppressive heat of the day and pulled into Lake Chinnabee campground around 9 am.  The trail was well marked and maintained other than a couple of trees across the trail.  I did notice that some hikers were cutting across some switchbacks which irritated me.  Since the area close to the campground see a lot of swimmers there was some garbage around the campsites.
