Trail Condition
Nubbin Creek Trail
Submitted by stargazer on Sat, 11/13/2010 - 8:23pmWe went out for a short hike today. We picked Nubbin Creek Trail because we have not hiked this one yet. The trail was in good condition. Several of the small streams were dry. The two bigger streams had some water flowing over rocks. It was a beautiful day to be on the trail. We want to go back when we have more time to include Cave Creek and Odum.

Canceled : Statewide Fire Alert Issued by the Alabama Forestry Commission : Canceled
Submitted by matthew on Thu, 09/23/2010 - 5:12pm
"Effective 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010, all 67 counties in the state of Alabama have been placed under a Fire Alert. The order was issued today by State Forester Linda S. Casey.
According to officials with the Alabama Forestry Commission (AFC), the Fire Alert was issued because of extremely dry weather conditions, the increased number of fires that have occurred recently, and reduced availability of suppression resources. While under the Fire Alert, outdoor burning is restricted.
In the last 30 days, 459 wildfires have occurred in Alabama burning approximately 4,743 acres of land. In comparison, the AFC battled only six wildfires during the whole month of September 2009.
Pinhoti/ No Blazes/ 1/4 mile section has been clear cut

Be careful when heading north on on the last Alabama section after Salem Church Road. I happened to hike through there on 3/7/10 while a timber company was clear cutting about 1/4-1/2 mile of the trail. I mazed my way through the carnage for at least thirty minutes looking blazes on downed trees. I finally found a sign on the old road bed to left side of the clear cut section. As soon as you cross Salem Church Road look for an old road bed on the left side heading directly into the woods, the trail follows the roadbed for 100' or so, then turns into the woods.

Bartram Canoe Trail
Submitted by LA MantaRay12 on Sat, 09/05/2009 - 1:51pmIf you plan to use the French's Lake kioske launch to access the Bartram Canoe Trail overnight #2 or #3 trail you will have to portage around a significant blowdown as you leave French's Lake.
I contacted the Alabama Conservation Office and was assured the blowdown was their responsibility to remove and that they would take care of it.
This blowdown has been there since early this summer. I just went back to French's Lake the weekend of August 22 to access the Bartram Canoe Trail and found the blowdown is still not removed.
