Pinhoti - June 2009

Pinhoti Trail conditions report from June 20, 2009:
From Porter's Gap north to Clairmont Gap the trail is mostly clear with a few large blowdowns. The only water on this section is to be found at Talladega Creek Bridge and at the campsite 5.2 miles north of Porter's Gap.
The section north of Clairmont Gap, from Clairmont to Burgess Point, is thickly overgrown with numerous blowdowns. While hiking this section on June 20 we lost the trail several times because of the thick foliage over the trail. Maintenance is badly needed on this section, and hikers should follow the blazes carefully. There is also no water on this section from Clairmont Gap until shortly before you get to the Double Springs campsite. Double Springs campsite had good water, and there were two small streams trickling between Double Springs and Adam's Gap. As expected in summer, these smaller streams will probably dry up soon.
