70-cent pot-stand/windscreen

Well I have a new Snow Peak Trek 1400 Ti cookset, and since my previous screen/stand was made of really heavy galvanized steel sheet I thought I had some opportunuity for some weight shaving here. So as I was buying some plywood at Lowe's on Saturday, I decided to check out their aluminum flashing. For $0.35 each they have some really thin aluminum angles (long side 3.75", short side 3.25", and 8" long on the angle). I trimmed the overall length down to 5" so it will fit inside my cookset. My original intention was to make a stand by cutting a slit of about 1/2" at the height I wanted to suspend my pot and then pop it out. Sort of like a capital letter L, but with the angle part forming a square and that square supporting a potion of the pot. Do that on both sides and you've got a stand. Unfortunately the metal was too brittle in the bend and immediately broke as I popped it in. So I decided to make the 2 L pieces into a 2 rod stand, by drilling 2 holes in each of the flashing peices and using a wire coat hanger to connect between them. The end product works pretty well for supporting a pot and blocking wind, however, it doesn't wrap completely around so there will be some thermal loss. The main objetive was acheived which was to make a functional stand that fit inside my pot that was much lighter. In fact my cookset (pots, stand, stove) weighs LESS than just the windscreen I used before.

I didn't take pics, but I will upon request.

It didn't quite work out.

I used it on my AT section. However, it wasn't very sturdy and a general pain to set up. It collapsed twice while cooking, and wasn't very safe.

1 more thing

I wanted the ability to use my frypan lid w/ this stand also, it works w/ both peices.
