End of camping/backpacking for the year?

Well, Fall is finally here. The mornings are getting cold consistantly and for this Dad of 3 it most likely means the camping year is done. Though I don't mind camping and backpacking in the winter, DW hates being cold. And while I could go out alone, that just doesn't seem just right as spending quality time w/ the family enjoying God's Creation together. We had some excellent trips this year, except for the overpriced Dismals Canyon they were all great. We did Oak Mountain SP, Dismals Canyon, Mammoth Cave NP, Walls of Jericho, McGrath State Beach/ Channel Islands NP, CA, 35 miles of the NC AT and Brushy Lake. I'm already thinking about the Spring. Hopefully we'll get a warm snap and we can rush out one more time.

hiking during hunting season
We (myself, wife, and daughter) tried to hike Quillian Creek the day after Thanksgiving. We waited until about 9:30 to start and luckily met the only 2 hunters parked at the Arnold Motorway as they were coming out. I wore an orange ball cap and my wife and daughter wore orange rain gear just to be safe. The hike down the old road was not too bad, still a little wet in spots. Once we got to the creek and started downstream it proved a little more difficult than we had planned on. There was not much flow in the creek but it was very slippery by the time we reached the Big Cascade we knew we would not be able to finish the hike all the way to Thompson Creek. So with map and compass we followed the side creek out and then bushwacked due north to the road coming out within 50 feet of where we started. The wife says no more bushwacking only trails from now on. Thanks to whoever marked the climb out of the Big Cascade I don't think we would have picked that way if it was not marked and we had all had enough slips and falls on the wet rocks to try any other way and probably would have backtracked out.
