Hi everybody

I'm new to this forum so I thought I would just plunge in rather than wait. And since I did not see anything on this park or the trails therein I thought you might like a little heads up.
I have inputted my kayack and gone both ways on this creek. It's a nice float. Slow and steady. No whitewater but sometimes you just want to see the large old cypress trees and try to get pictures of the turtles on the logs and the birds. If you head towards the river you can take out at Hwy 43 in Chickasaw a few miles down the creek. Or you can turn around and come back to the park.
There is camping in Chickasabogue. Both primitive and connected. You are not far from Interstate I-65 so keep that in mind. To get to the park you must get off at Industrial Parkway in Saraland and from the get off if you are going south you can simply cross the four lane highway onto Shelton Beach Road. Follow Shelton Beach Road and there are well marked signs telling how to get to the park.
I have hiked Cemetery Loop which is a 2.5 mile loop in the southern piney woods. Be sure that you have hiking shoes that will keep your feet dry. There are lots of fern lined creeks and bogs all through this park. Be warned local cyclists love this trail and the others in the park.
I have also hiked the Beach Loop Trail 3 miles and the other trails in this park. There are 11 miles of trails all told and the more remote trails are on the east side of the interstate. That's right. You have to pass under the interstate near the creek to get to more remote trails in the park.
Do not attempt to hike these trails in the heat of summer if you are not climitized to the deep south. Friends from further north will simply melt in the stifling humidity. But that is nothing for those of us from the south who like to explore the back areas we haven't seen before and see what's there.

Chickasabogue Park
Never been to this park before but my interest has been piqued by your post. Sounds like I need to try this one out with my kayak as well as hiking. Thanks.
