Lazy kayaking

After doing some yardwork on Friday, I decided that I wanted to enjoy the weather and go kayaking down the local river. She had never been kayaking, or even in a kayak, so she was a little apprehensive. The only way I could convice her, was guarantee her a sit-on-top kayak...

The last time I had been down that river was at least 10 years ago, probably even longer, and then I went in a canoe.

So we called a local rental company, put some deposits down and were told when to show up for Sunday.

We did just that. 0930 we arrived at the rental center on the Coosa River, picked out our boat, and waited for the others to arrive.

By 1030, we were on the water and enjoying our hands at paddling. It took a little while, but my wife finally began to figure out her right, left, forward, and back paddle.

Supposedly, the trip would take roughly 4hours, so around the halfway mark, we made a little stop to enjoy some snacks and lunch.

Just shortly after lunch, we actually made faster time than planned and met our check out point ahead of schedule. We were at the boat slip by 1330, making the whole 7mi trip in roughly 3hrs. As we turned in our gear, and took the last photo, she was smiling and enjoyed the trip.

Now, she has boating fever and we've been talking about doing another one soon. We actually have our eyes set on the Ocoee for some whitewater rafting next month.

Very scenic!

The Coosa looks awesome in your photos Lostsheep.  Thanks for sharing.  Sounds like you all had a great time.  How were the rapids at Moccassin Gap???  Did the tandem kayak handle okay?

Well it looks like you had

Well it looks like you had plenty of water.  I have never been on that river but from the pictures it appears to be very scenic.  I know you had fun because there were some big smiles in those pictures.
