My Best Trails in Alabama

After reading this post about top hiking trails, I’ve found that in the list that represents the American ones, there was not featured Alabama.

So, I’ve decide to write my own post about my the best trails in Alabama.

Found in north-west Alabama, the 180,000 acres Bankhead National Forest has a unique forest ecosystem formed by pines, hemlocks and magnolia trees.

It's watered by the Wild and Scenic West Fork of Sipsey River. The north-east of Forest features 27 miles of multiple-use loop trails open to equestrians, mountain bike, on foot and campsites.

The three paths of the Torch-Pine Loop, Brushy Loop, and the key Mill-Loop scenic meander through hardwood forests and along the zone of many streams.

The forest also contains the popular 26,000-acre Sipsey Wilderness, which offers about 25 km of hiking trails.

If you go off-piste, make sure you've got a good map, a compass and a pair of sports sandals amphibians are the essential elements if you have no interest at all in dry boots.

My favorite trail is the Trail 209 (Sipsey Fork Trail): It is the longest path in Sipsey Wilderness, following the flow of the river Sipsey through most of the canyon, with waterfalls and tall limestone cliffs lining the banks. Among various vegetation along the route are blackberry bushes and muscadine vines. Trail Area: Dirt path.

Other favorite routes:

Chinnabee silent trail: The Chinnabee Silent Trail, meanders a hillside Chinnabee towards the lake, shows the beauty of Talladega National Forest. Along the way, the wonders of the forest have proved again and again. In throat that leads to the lake, the trail clings to walls of rock on a wooden platform and provides the view of several waterfalls. Trail Area: Dirt path, some travel on rock.

Bee Branch Trail: The terrain is easy to moderate rock and dirt paths through a canyon and small waterfalls, resulting in the Bee Branch Falls and caves. There is an excellent camp at the end of the trail. Trail Area: Dirt trip through rocky canyons.
