The new Sylaward trail at Lake Howard
The new Sylaward trail in Sylacauga is a new trail for hiking and mountain biking in a remote pristine area of the Talladega National Forest. It starts next to an old boat launch at a rather small lake named Lake Howard, in Sylacauga Alabama. The trail takes you through some ridges up and along the lake with some nice views. This trail is also supposed to be a part of the ever moving Appalachian trail system that is supposed to connecting all the way to Flagg mountain in Coosa county, but the AT will go right through this area where the Sylaward trail is located. Currently it is very possible to link up with the AT from here no managed trails exist but still it can be done. Eventually the Sylaward might possibly be the southern most point to access the AT and Pinhoti trails. This trail is in its infancy it has been completed all except for trail markers and little things such as this once the word gets out though this will likely be a very popular trail for backpackers and mountain bike enthusiast alike.
