Flemdawg's post earlier about spending his hard earned Karma points reward got me thinking.

What is it that local gear stores do not stock/carry that you all are looking for?

My list:
Tyvek, sold by the linear foot.  Tyvek makes a great lightweight tent footprint for pennies compared to the manufacturers custom made one, and they are probably more than 1/3 less in weight.

Enertia brand dehydrated meals.  I love these!  They are single servings (not feeding an army!) have great taste/flavor, are made in the USA, no repackaging needed, conforms to FBC cooking, and are reasonably prices ($4 or less).

ULA brand backpacks and accessories. Not many stores carry them anywhere in the US, (nearest is in N. GA) but I sure want to try them on before dropping the cash!

Books, maps and info. You don't really have to have a $200 pullover to hike, but info is priceless. And its pretty tough finding good guide books and maps w/out going to the area (Pinhoti, Big South Fork, Smokies, Cumberland Plateu area, etc).

Cuffs...The ULA pack is well worth the trip to Mtn Crossings!!!  I got mine there and could not be happier.  Even if you order through ULA directly, you will have to wait till Dec. or Jan. as Brian is on vacation.  Mine will be too big for you but I would be happy to let you check it out if you have not seen one up close and personal.  Send me an e-mail if you want and maybe we can meet for a hike or something.

I went to see Brian at his shop earlier this year and have ordered it already.  Winton has one in my size, but Brian is doing a 'custom job' for me... Wink

Absolutely FD1, not being able to readily find good guide books and especially maps is frustrating.

Bass Pro Shops in Pville has started carrying NG Trail maps of various NP's which helps some.  I was able to go ahead and purchase maps for Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Arches for my big trip next year!   Grin
