Another recent post got me thinking... we've all been to some great places for hiking, but whats that one (or 2) dream hiking trails/destinations that you are just really hoping to get to?

For me, its Kakadu National Park, Australia  http://www.environment.gov.au/parks/kakadu/

Copper Canyon. Mexico
Banff? NP, Canada (ya know in the rockies)  Undecided
Patagonia, Chile
I'd also love to see the Alps and Himalayas, just never researched it.

All 3 of the Triple Crown.
Of the NPs: Yosemite, Glacier, Denali, Olympia, & Grand Canyon, but my goal is all 58 of the major units.

Wow Cuffs.  Don't know if I can limit it to 1 or 2...

For 2009 my goal is: Yellowstone, Arches, Yosemite, Sequoia, and Petrified Forest. (already did Grand Canyon)

Ultimately, I'd like to do the major NP's especially Volcano (HI) and Denali (AK)

While we're dreaming... let's add hiking in New Zealand, Australia, and Scotland.

For now it would be Yellowstone and Denali. I hope to get to Yellowstone in the next two years, and I'm putting Alaska on my 5-year mental list.

My short list for hiking and photography is mostly National Parks or major attractions. Yellowstone, Denali, GC, Arches, Zion, Monument Valley, Havasupai (less appealing maybe after flood), Jasper & Banff in Canada, Acadia (keep not making it), Yosemite, etc...

my dream is very fuzzy so far, but one thing that may be a bit different for me is that the ultimate backpacking trip depends a lot more on the friends I go with, or happen to meet, than where I go. At least that has been true of my long cycling tours.  The best one of those I've been on was for two weeks starting in southern Illinois and going all the way across Kentucky before I said goodbye at Damascus, VA; it was great because 5 of us, who had never met before, got along great due to a good leader and willingness to help each other instead of doing "what I wanna do today".

I'm looking forward to at least one trip like that this season with a few of you .

The entire AT, I know this may not seem like an ultimate dream hike to most, but to me it is a realistic dream to have. Now if I can just get this old crippled body to co-operate......... one day.

This isn't a hiking trip, but I've always thought it would be cool to take a covered wagon/buggy across the U.S., preferably from Maine to Oregon/Washington, but St. Louis or Chicago to Oregon would be cool enough. Then again, I'm not fond of horses, and oxen probably wouldn't go over as well on public roads. Wink
