:)  Great hike today!  It started with foggy, crisp air.   When we arrived at Thompson Creek Trailhead, there were about 4 or 5 cars there.  It took about a mile of hiking to get warm.  We saw families, dogs, heard a piliated woodpecker.  The water was down in Thompson Creek, but "Blue Hole"   was about 6' deep and the creek where we ate lunch was about the level it was in August.  The creek was down considerably.  Didn't notice any ticks.

We took a side trail up to the top of Ship rock and reached a point where we could look down from both sides.  Cool!  At lunch the fog lifted and we had a sunny afternoon.  It was warm hiking, but when we stopped it was cool.  Nine people on our hike.  It started around 10:30 and we finished about 3:30.

Doug was champion rock skipper at "Blue Hole".  Mike came in second, but lost points for hitting me!  We threaded Needle's Eye to get to convergence of Quinlen  and Thompson Creek.  Great beauty and the woods were quiet, between groups of hikers.

When we left there were probably 20 cars parked up the road.  Great to see so many enjoying the woods!  I'll post pictures and a map elsewhere.

If my memory serves me, this is in Sipsey? And if so, where exactly is Ship Rock? Fattire and I have scoured those woods only to still not be sure we found it.

Theprocon,

Yes, Ship Rock is in Sipsey. It is located near the junction of the Sipsey and Parker Creek.

You can see it on the Briartech map. http://www.briartech.com/sipseyonepagea.pdf

Hey,

I got the Trail map up and you can see where it is.  We started at the trailhead of Thompson Creek in the Sipsey Wilderness.  We followed Thompson Creek to the headwaters of the Sipsey River. I'll have other pictures up soon to help you recognize it if you go there.  Overall we hiked around six miles even.
