High house hill

The bride and I decided to do some exploring this weekend. Seeing High house hill on the map we decided to see what we could see. You can park on the old driveway at 34 21.948N 087 15.278W and follow it up to the old homesite. We found a ton of muscadine vines growing all along the trail. There was one spot about halfway in that we smelled a very strong aroma of mint. we looked for it but could never find any growing. The road was wide making the walk very easy with very little bushwhacking to bypass some downed trees. The old home site we believe is at 34 22.470N 087 14.397W, but will look closer this winter when everything isn't hidden by vegetation. If your looking for a quick daytrip I would recommend you give this area a shot.

I like the fact that you are drawn to the homesites and other historical sites in Sipsey and Bankhead, because they aren't all that well known or visited.

I do enjoy finding the old home sites. Somewhere in Bankhead there are the columns left from a long forgotten resort, my bride and I have been searching for them over the last few years. My bride saw them years ago while riding horses thru the forest, but sadly she doesn't know what part of the forest they were in. The gentleman that showed them to her has since past away, so we can't ask him. So if any of you have a clue on that please speak up.
oh the Miles Howell homestead in wiggins hollow is located at N 34° 21.326 W 087° 09.421
this is still there.....

I was looking for a few of these homes. Thanks for helping out.
I'm really curious about the one on the west side near FT201 area toward School House Falls. As you hike the area, there are red paint marks denoting privat property and a home in the area, but I've never seen it.
Are your coordinates referring to that one by chance or do you know of the one I'm referring to?

The one you are referring if it is a cinder block house is on private property. The road to it is just past Randolph Trailhead if you are headed west, it is called the windmill house because of the windmill on the property. Its not occupied and I don't believe the property is posted. If you need the coords I have them somewhere.
