First that I've heard of it. Sounds interesting. Good point of research. I did notice in a statement in the news article it said or, I percieved it to state, that HancockTimber Resource Group often sells woodlands it manages  for investors to " a program such as Forever Wild or a non profit like the Nature Conservancy", is it being implied that Forever Wild is a for profit program? Perhaps I'm mistaken or it doesn't really matter, but I'm just curious what the end result would be if it were purchased by one rather than the other. It would appear as though they have alot going for them according to their web site, research, education, concern for the ecosystem, Responsible land management practices for properties which they have already purchased, etc. Will be interesting, sounds pretty good.

I think The Nature Conservancy is a public, non-profit organization and Forever Wild is an State agency. They both purchase land, but purchases by The Nature Conservancy are often temporary — they purchase at-risk land and hold it until it can be sold or otherwise transferred to an entity like Forever Wild. They might, for example, purchase the tract along the Coosa River to keep it from being purchased by developers, then hold it until the State / Forever Wild could generate funds for the purchase.

For the state/nonprofit status of Forever Wild, see:

I wish somebody would buy Rock Bridge Canyon, assuming it is still closed...
