Hello all,
I have just gotten back from my first trip to the Sipsey this season. We got going pretty late and didn't hit the trail until 1pm on Friday. Natalie and I parked at the Borden creek trail head and headed down the western side of the creek down to 209. After walking for about 2 hours we decided to camp early and enjoy our campsite next to Falls Creek Falls. The next morning we headed out early and finally made it to the big tree area. I had been to the Sipsey three times before without seeing the dang tree. I had anticipated there not being any water up there and boy was I right. Thankfully we brought an extra camelback just for that reason. That night we camped along the trail that turns off of 204 and towards the big tree. The first campsite was pretty trashed so I would not recommend camping there, we opted for the second one down. The next morning we trekked back across Bunyan hill trail to get back to the car.
Things I would do differently next time: pack less stuff, pack lighter food, locate my gps for next trip, get an early start on the first day (not entirely my fault)

Remember if you are going up to the Bee Branch area bring lots of water there was nothing but stagnate pools of dark murky water. Yuck!!

It was low on water back in June/July too. Sorry to hear it's still that way. Hopefully this spring we can get some good rain to help out. We need it! BAD.

Sounds like you had fun though. Did the tree disappoint?

The tree did not disappoint. I stood atop the waterfalls and was wondering out loud ok where is this tree. Then I just let out and ohhhhhhhh there it is. It was really interesting.
