There has been so little traffic on Alatrails this weekend, Im feeling alone and left out!

Thats ok, while all you schmo's are reading this about mid week, I'll be out on the Pinhoti cutting brand new trail!

Nope. Not hiking.

I'm here in Iowa and there ain't nothing here but corn and soybeans. I just wish I was hiking. Instead, they have me working 70hrs a week and it's not fun.

When I get home, I'm hiking doubletime.

The worst part is that I HAD a few trips planned for this fall, but once I got here in August, I cancelled everyone of them. And those that planned them with me and decided to go, yea, they are still out there, backpacking without me.

I can't much call it hiking but I did track down a waterfall in Montgomery - it's right at the road so hiking wasn't involved.

Weather is totally unpredictable here anyway. It was freezing at the beginning of the week, then 60, now it is freezing again.

Hiked a 4 mile trail in FL yesterday. Hike about 14 miles weekend before last.

IMO, hunting = armed dayhiking (excluding stand hunting).

And, yes I was out hiking. It was AWESOME!! Trip report later.

Did an overnighter in TNF last week, stayed at the Chinnabee Silent Trail shelter went with a friend that is a newbie to the hiking community, now he is hooked. ( despite the hazing he got as a newbie, nothing harmful, just a large rock slipped in his pack for him to carry from the shelter to Lake chinnabee, I now have a new trail name, Can't share it due to graphic content.) Was a great time to be out in the cooler weather. Also hiked the Nubbin creek trail, I can see why it is Matthew's favorite.

I musta been walkin with my eyes closed on nubbin creek back this summer as I thought it was rather boring compared to cave creek and odum trails that I hiked the same trip.  No huckleberries nor gooseberries, no interesting old longleaf or other trees, and no views off in the distance that I can remember

I dont find any trail boring or plain.  To me they are each their own individual creatures.  Thats what makes them memorable, how they are different.  If they were all the same, you could just hike one trail then say youve hiked them all.  They are even different individually in different seasons.  I thru-hiked the Pinhoti over a year and a half ago, in March.  Leaves were down, views from every ridge, not a flower to be found. This made me concentrate on the little things going on along side the trail.  The little bugs, different forms of shelf fungi, listening/identifying bird songs.  This week doing maintenance, the leaves were out, many just starting to get some very intense color, some late flowers blooming, insects gathering food for winter, a catepillar making a coccoon, and the songs of birds not heard in the spring... 

Each trail, each season, a wonderful new experience.

I've only hiked a few trails I'd consider calling boring, and all were on artificial terrain. The worst was a boardwalk/trail in a reclaimed marsh built to compensate for wetlands destroyed by the construction of NY-17 (I-84). FAKE!

Ed, Just my opinion, thanks for sharing yours. Sometimes the solitude of the trail less traveled is a beautiful thing to some of us, often less trash, grafitti, overused primitive camp sites, etc. Some of the less spoiled areas are more attractive to me than those with grand vistas. I guess I chose to see the forest in spite of the " not so interesting" trees. I can find wonderful things about ALL of God's creation. Maybe my next trip I'll take the oppourtunity to hike the Cave creek and Odum trails that you found more favorable and to your liking. I'm sure I will enjoy them as well. I am new to hiking the TNF area, so have little to compare it to in that area and to compare it to Sipsey or GSMNP would be grossly unfair.  Happy Trails!
