Anyone done any hiking in Hawaii?  Not to brag but I'm going to be out there December 6th - 12th.    Maui specifically.  I know theres some good hiking out there but was hoping to get some insider info.  I seem to recall someone on this forum saying they've hiked out there.
Thanks!

There are 2 main-type Nationals Parks, Haleakala NP and Hawaiin Volcanoes.

Haleakala is on Maui and looks like to would have some truly great backpacking. I would definately send at least 2 nights out there and save some $ that otherwise be blown on the hotel.

I've been to Hawaii but never done any hiking there. I would like to go back one day and see what trails are there.

You will love Maui!!! I went with the family a few years back and we had the time of our life. Didn't get to do any backpacking but we did do a couple of short dayhikes. One was to 7 cascading waterfalls that emptied into a nice swimming hole and the other was to a black sand beach. If you get a chance, the bike trip from the top of Haleakala is a blast (be sure to take warm clothes cause its cold up top) Snorkeling with the big Sea Turtles was fun.  The road to Hanna and going through the tropical rainforrest was really cool. Just being able to lay out on the beach and not sweat like you do at the Gulf was very nice because there was no humidity. Be sure to go to a Luau, its very entertaining and the food was very good. I ate fresh pineapple every day,it was so sweet,it would melt in your mouth.
Great place to go, The scenery is spectacular, You will have a blast.
