Today was an awesome day to be out and about Quillan. Not wanting to mess with crossing Hubbard today, we decided to hike in using the old motor way trail. Wanting to see a side of the Creek I hadn't seen before we hiked upstream. The pay off was a nice waterfall with what looks be a big bearing on a ledge next to fall and just a few feet away looks to be a shaft that might have once belonged to a water wheel.  Has anyone heard of there being a mill or anything on Quillan at one time?

Photos from today are up on Flicker here is the link photos
I post a full trip report later.

I had heard about a mill on the creek, but I never made it to there. Some vacation some day.

I like the photos.

well, it seems to be a specialty so I shouldn't be surprised, but I gotta say that you do a nice job with nature photography. I'm enjoying these photographs.

I've been there.  I made reference to it on another thread on this board recently.  Someone once told me the story, but I don't recall the particulars.  I do believe they said it was a mill, but not sure what type.  I email with the fellow from time to time and will see waht I can find otu.

The chute that goes down to the lower cascase is really pretty.  I think that's where the big shaft was located.

I found an old map the fellow I mentioned sent me way back when.  It was old grist mill, if we're talking about the same place.

This is the cascases I'm talking about:

From what I remember, just a short distance (10-15 feet) downstream from the 2nd photo was a large steel rod.  I'm going through my images to see if I took one of it, but maybe just didn't post it on webshots.

Does this look like the place you're talking about?  These pictures were taken 5 years ago.
