Trail and Maps

Being relatively new to both Hiking and Alabama; something I think would be handy on this site is a forum for Trails.  We could make it as in depth or as general as we would like, but maybe something along these lines:

Forum Title - Trail Maps

• Easy/Beginner
• Medium/Moderate
• Hard/Difficult

and then maybe under each of the sub categories have Trail names and maps that folks can print out and go hike.


I know that if you just look hard enough on the web you can find about 3 more than a bazillion trails and maps, but for anyone new to the whole thing to have everything on one site would be phenomenal.  Also to see folks comments from personal experiences with trails would be nice too.

This is a great idea. I will go ahead and create a forum for it. I have been looking for a forum plugin that would allow us to embed a map into the post itself but I think the layout of the forum may be limiting to the look of a map. We may have to just settle for links to outside map sites. Anyone have suggestions?

The now-defunct foottrails.com had a page on their site dedicated to trail maps, etc.  They simply arranged theirs alphabetically.  Foottrails was primarily a Southern site as well, though they did get maps, etc. for popular destinations around the country.  Perhaps they would be better organized by setting them up aphabetically by region of the country, and by region of the state?  Just some ideas.
