My SIL is getting married week after next and hopefully DW and I can escape the cabin for a couple of nights.

Criteria:
mileage less 10/day
no mountaineering (and minimal ice, don't have crampons)
Loops or point-point (will prob be dropped off and picked up)
North side of park between Big Creek-Townsend, Gatlinburg-Newfound Gap.
Must camp legally.

Fire away.

Here's a park trail map: http://www.nps.gov/grsm/p...load/Trail%20map%2008.pdf

Ninja,  There are many options that fit your criteria in the sugarlands area. For example, if you want an easy leisurely 2 nighter hike, with Max approx. elevation gain of 1000 ft. you could do the Little River trail with many options for a loop hike. It is located by the Elkmont campground area (closed for the season).  Little River trail to campsite 24 or 30and spend first night, next day take rough creek trail up to sugarland mountain trail and stay the second night at campsite 21 then take husky gap trail back to little river trail the next day. total miles only16.2. Many other options are available using the Little river trail head as a base. Don't forget that to camp legally you will need to go to the Sugarlands Ranger Station and get permits for each site you camp at, very easy process. While you are there go to the ranger station gift shop and pick up a Falcon Guide "Hiking GSMNP" book for 16.95, it has all the trail info you need in it for planning your hike. Hope this helps. Happy Trails.

Thanks Rob. I've done the Little River Trail before (though DW hasn't) it's very nice. I've already made reservations for the Big Creek-Mt Sterling loop though. I think this routes gives a lil' taste of both the low and highlands (Mt Sterling is the highest tent camping site in the NP).  And I'm thinking of packing a fishing pole and trying to get afew trout.

DW's worried about freezing though, lows in the 20's. Taking the warmer tent.
