Is everyone hitting the trail this weekend?

I know I am! Rain or shine... but hopefully shine! I am going to try to triple my last distance... but it will help that I will get out earlier and have more daylight

Nope. It snowed again. The good news is that I got some good hiking time in this week, because the snow melted last week. I did some testing of the PN-40 GPSr, and I checked the access trail for the start of a potential bushwhack this spring. The better news is that it only snowed about .5in, so it'll melt by Sunday. I don't bother hiking on snow around here, because there's usually ice hidden underneath, and I don't like landing on my tush, which has a bag full of camera gear above it.

our group is recovering from the crud, so we are gonna do some geocaches that require short hikes. Most of those are on the eastern side of 33.   Hopefully we will get some rain next week, as we are wanting to photo the caspey creek falls.

I feel ya there... I was sick with food poisoning last weekend so I am going to try to take it easy... I'm going to check out Sipsey this Spring but for now I am going to train on Oak Mtn... it also helps that its the closest.

Matt is off to Oak mountain today with Jackson (our hiking dog) to break in his new ruff-wear pack; I'm stuck at home studying. Tomorrow we're probably going to to the Cave Creek Trail for more "training". The goal is to try to get Jackson ready for the big spring break trip to Joyce Kilmer/Slickrock Wilderness in N.C.  Missy (our frou frou dog) is highly jealous.

Studying here to while the husband and kids are off playing in the woods:( but I might get some kind of short trail run in if I can get focused on this Math and get my but in gear on finishing these Eng, chapter review pages.. sigh.

Did the Chinnabee Silent trail today and it was a perfect day for ramblin in the woods. There were a lot of people out today. Saw at least 25 on this trail alone and all parkking areas were full. Just a great day. Carl W

I did part of that trail summer last year during what was left of hurricane fay and saw quite a few people on the way back to the car in the pouring rain..

I did the Chinnabee two weekends ago from Turnipseed to the Pinhoti, the Pinhoti to Adams Gap, the Skyway Loop Trail back to the Chinabee and back to Turnipseed. Did not see a soul until halfway of the Skyway. A group of Boy Scouts caught up with me (I'm old and slow). Met one day hiker later. There were several cars at both the Turnipseed parking and Adams Gap parking. I guess I just missed all the people.

A friend and I did a bushwhack of a side creek off of Hubbard Creek.  Very pretty, nothing spectacular..... . but i don't think I saw a single human footprint.

I was going to go on a trail up in Las Cruces, NM this weekend but the person who was supposed to go with me has ceased contact with me so I doubt it is going to happen. I may go somewhere by myself.

Theirs gonna be four of us in one car. I'm not leaving anything of value in the car. I was wonder the same thing, I read about Lawnmowwers experience, but that was at Cheaha.

I usually don't keep anything valuable in there but I think I will make sure to take out everything! I might even leave my upper glove box open to show that there is nothing hiding... but I'm just paranoid b/c I have a new car 

I'm thinking on parking at the 200/203/224/207 trailhead just because it is way off the main road.. When I was going through yesterday I noticed people drive insainly fast on the main road...

Yeah, for all Alatrails folks: Perry Lakes and Barton Beach is really worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood.  The birding tower, catwalks, and other structures were all designed an built by Auburn Rural Studio students.  There is a swamp of mixed cypress and tupelo gum.  We really enjoyed it.

Also: my son, a student at Montevallo, loves to go the the Bibb County Glades of the Little Cahaba River.  We're going to try to get down there in April or May when everything is in bloom.

If you're in the area in May, be sure and checkout the Cahaba NWR while the Cahaba Lilies are in bloom!  Spectacular sight.

In 32 years I have never had a problem at any Sipsey trailhead and have never heard of any. Of course it is still best to make sure you do not leave any thing of value in sight.

 In 25 years I have only had the one incident. I have even left my doors unlocked in Sipsey and not found any thing touched (accidentally of coarse).

 Sipsey is awesome in the rain. Just be careful. The rocks are slick.
