I would have to agree. Me and my wife and another couple are getting into backpacking. Were planning on going every chance we get.

I have to get on my hands and knees to get my husband to go with me... I think he'd rather sit on the couch and watch tv all weekend.. Not me!! He will probly wind up being left home a time or two if I can find someone else to go with when he doesn't want to come.

Me and my wife are total opposite of that she will go camping, hunting, fishing, hiking/backpacking and etc. she loves the outdoors and it gives me great company as well. Hopefully you can get him up and go with you.

I'm sure I will... I love to get outdoors but I don't do it as often as I should. My husband mostly likes to fish.

I will be glad when winter is over with so that it's not dark after I get home from work. It always makes me feel like all I do is work and there is no time to do anything. This spring/summer I am going to take a few days off and just enjoy them. Hopefully the hubby will have a job by then and I won't have to worry about those few extra days!

Haha! I'm 5' and barely break the triple digits... you just have to make sure to 'pack right'. Most importantly... get a good pack that fits correctly. There's nothing worse than carrying the wrong pack for your body type! Advice: take her with you to try on packs. GoLite's are great (fit me) or go somewhere like Mountain High Outfitters who can conform the pack to the individual. Good luck!

My goal this year is to try and backpack once every other month, or at least once per quarter!  I'd also like to try and finish section hiking the entire Alabama Pinhoti...

My goal is to spend at least one weekend a month in the woods, lose the last 20 pounds that I want to lose, and continue to lighten my pack.

I will take her with me to get sizes properly. Im looking at Gregory's for her. She likes mine and wants to match (more me wanting us to match Tongue)

Thanks

This girl will tell you that size matters! If a pack doesn't fit well you won't be able to use it because you will be so miserable it'll never be used again. (I say you but I mean her). Gregory's rock. My Gregory Jade 50 is an awesome pack, I love it. She should try on as many packs as possible. I like Gregory's, my girlfriend prefers osprey's, my Mom like her golite. There are loads of great woman's packs packs out there.

My 2009 Goal: Finish a spring break trip...the last one was flooded out because we couldn't ford the rivers.

Goals for 2009, most of them vague and tangentially related to hiking.
- Job. (Recycled from 2008)
- Visit all Cypripedium sites on my list in Mid-Atlantic.
- Finally get out an check Potomac State Forest in western Maryland.
- Hit Dolly Sods Wilderness in WV
- Hit Ricketts Glen in PA
- Finally hike in Soldier's Delight in Maryland.

Goals for 2010.
- Valcour Island in Lake Champlain (NY). This is a boat in, camp-on, area with a plant species I NEED to photograph. Wink
- See a mountain with snow on it not in winter.

Goals for 2011-2015
- Hike to Cypripedium passerineum sites in Montana wilderness areas. Backcountry bushwhack required.
- Hike to Cypripedium guttattum and yatabeanum sites in Alaska.
- Get my butt to Yellowstone, GC, Pacific NW.

I'm glad you're getting on there with the list, and I see you've made additions. Wink

I'll fess up on the little waterfall between Upper and Lower Caney, it is more of a weeping wall than a waterfall, visible ONLY from the other side from the trace down to the lower falls. I remember it being across from a wet draw, about mid-way between the upper falls and the curve in the creek.

My 09' goals would include meeting some Alatrails folks and joining some of the group activities. ( I now have off Saturdays, WooHoo!) I must say that you all have a wealth of info to be gleened.

Hiking at least two or three days a month.

Learning that I can live without a 40 lb. pack full of "stuff". (go ahead and laugh, no shame in the truth)

I had to ask Uncle Wayne when I saw it in the gallery... He said it was on a feeder to Rush Creek.

wow, I must be new, but old school with good back, to still consider 35# as light and 45# as not bad because I'm taking more field guide books and sheet music in my cheap, external, plastic frame pack.

I'm hoping to hike farther up the Pinhoti  in GA or some of the B.MacKaye sometime this year. Have no schedule yet however.
