They work great in the mud, rocks, on the steep (up or down). I am looking for my next set. I can see that with out the tip the end of my old set is going to last much longer.

I love trekking poles, they help me on downhills especially. Plus we have to have them for our tent.
I have seen several different leki models come available on steepandcheap.co
m lately on the cheap cheap.
We use REI hiking poles. They have held up great but will soon be replaced.

I am in the same camp with Joshua, single pole hiking. I find the single pole works more as a bush clearer as well as a walking aid on wet or slippery terrain. Might sound crazy, but I use a bamboo pole that I bought at Lowe's. 6 feet tall, very strong, and super light weight. Plus I think it cost me $8.
My son and I both used these bamboo poles when we did the Appalachian Trail from Springer thru the Smokey's. Worked great for me!

Generally speaking, gear doesn't have to have a trendy name or big price tag to be of some usefulness. Just remember that in many cases the performance may not be the same. Stay within your comfort range financially and get out and enjoy the outdoors safely. Happy Trails..........

The warranty is a plus, although I've never had to use it. I have had my lekis' for 2 years, with no problems. I like the cork handles and the fact that the straps are also adjustable (longer or shorter), just a side note, some folks don't know this. And the replacement tips are available at my favorite local AO store.
