I have 4 days off from work and bummed because it's too cold to ride. What gear do you suggest for winter riding? Let me know cause I hate to think a little nippy weather is keeping me home.

Layers. Layers of layers. I would much rather be hot than cold and I don't like the transition from one to the other. I can always take the stuff off if I get too hot. I have Gore-Tex socks, wool liner socks, full shoe covers with holes cut in the bottoms for the cleats and toe spikes, several different kinds of tights (some wind-proof), assorted base layers including micro sensor and polypropylene long under wear, short sleeve and sleeveless wicking shirts, long sleeve jerseys, Gore-Tex cycling jacket, several balaclavas (it doesn't get cold enough around here for my fleece one), glove liners and long finger windproof gloves. Check out article below.

We just got back from riding Tsali in 30 degree weather. I learned one thing......you don't have to have a "bicycle type" clothing assortment, just something you are comfortable riding in. I wore a spandex longsleeve underneath my regular short sleev jersey, and a pair of riding shorts. I was fine when I warmed up. Nothing to it. Layers are the way to go, if you get hot, just pull one off and tie it to ya.

Slade honestly you don't need much.  When I ride colder weather (keep in mind I'm used to riding in the 40's) I ride with a long sleeve jersey and a windbreaker type of jacket.  I would have to show you what I use.  I also wear full fingered gloves and Sugoi full leg tights under my normal biking shorts.  If it gets much colder than that I just don't ride and sit on my trainer.  I won't ride when its 30 degrees.

Thanks for all the input. I think I am going to pick myself up an inexpensive base layer and maybe spend a little more on a lightweight jacket. I'm with you Kona, I don't think I want to ride if its in the 30s.
