We would love to have people join us so long as you don't mind a couple of slow pokes  Wink  It takes us about 2 hours to get to the trail head.

Speed is no where near my bride and I's forte you won't have any problems keeping up with us.   Having said that, 2 hours to get to what trailhead from where?

We live a few miles behind the Walmart in Sumiton/Dora. I googled the time to the Randolph Trailhead going up 78 to 195 and then up 33.

I live on the other side of B'ham.  The easiest think is probable a leave time from the trail head. If any one from my area want to ride we can get together. The crossings on this trip shouldn't be a problem. I have made this hike many times. Its a good choice.

we live in hartselle, we usually get to trailhead about 10. If anyone wants to go that's fine by me. But keep in mind speed is not one of our strong points, as we love to look, explore, photograph, ponder, and just soak up nature. Uncle Wayne has given me directions on a shorter way to the falls than the way on the map I posted. We have one member under the weather a little, so we are waiting to see if she feels up to the hike. Anyone is welcome to join us, there are 2 things we always find, the waterfall and the restaurant.

The Cohutta Wilderness area is close to Chatanooga. It's actually right outside of Dalton, GA. I love that area up there around the Jack's and Conasauga rivers. Plenty of good hikes up in those woods.

I just can't make myself go up there when the water is so cold, knowing all those river crossings are on the Jack's River Trail... BBRRRRrrrrrrrrrr

If anyone wants to carpool we can meet at the Walmart in Sumiton if everyone is headed up hwy 78. Cars are generally safe there since it's open 24/7... otherwise I live just 2 miles behind it. We are going to try to leave the house by 8 to get there at 10.

We are planning to start at the Randolph trailhead then hike up 201 and depending on energy levels may go to eye of the needle... then we will find a spot to camp on 209 and then come back sunday on the 202

Just PM me if you are interested in joining us otherwise we can just meet at the trailhead. Smiley

We arrived at the trailhead at about 9:15. Parking lot was already crowded and we weren't too comfortable where we had to park.

pics are here

Hope everyone has a good weekend

Sorry we missed you! Did you do the hike as a day hike or overnighter? Maybe in a few weeks we can organize a group dayhike through there. We were originally planning to do an overnighter but wound up going home... we knew we weren't going to be able to walk the next day so we just steamed through. And sure enough we could not walk the next day!  laugh We will be in better shape next time though and it will help greatly to not have a 30lb pack on my back!!

I did an overnighter. I camped  on 209 just off the 202 intersection. I had a med. sized black dog. I think I was parked in front of you on the side of the road. Myself and a jeep backed up almost in the trees. The parking was crazy this weekend. I was reading and napping at my campsite after about 12:30. I just can't bring Myself to drive over 4 hours total for a day hike.

I think I remember seeing yall over there. I remember your dog coming to check us out right before we crossed the river... hubby didn't want to get his feet wet at the first river crossing so we bushwacked up the side of a mountain and crossed that log. but he didn't have much of a choice at the second crossing so I made him put on my boots since they were already wet and I went across barefoot. luckily tho we are only 1 hour away so its not that bad of a drive.
