I think Payne Creek Falls might be the seasonal falls at the shelter on the end of the Payne Creek Trail.

Go north ~1/2 mile on 33 from the Sipsey River pullout, this is a pullover/parking area. Starting at the north end of the pullover follow the green blazes. This will take you along a small seasonal stream. Where this stream go down over a ledge into Payne Creek would be the falls. Follow the the trail down to the right to access the creek and then follow the creek downstream to the falls/shelter.

Oops that wasn't the falls, saw Uncle Wayne's photo. But the trail will take you down to the creek though.

By the way, I'm planning to do some survey work on some Sipsey waterfalls next week. Is there any particular ones (that I can get to without backpacking) that needs some clarification as to their height? I'll be leaving Friday (and will probably be setting up in the rain Tongue )

Wolf,

Do you mean literal survey work?

Truth be told, we don't have much good data from anywhere in Sipsey. I think only Kinlock and Fall Creek Falls have accurate numbers floating around for them, simply due to the shear volume of visitation.

I've never seen estimates I believed for any of the Turkey Foot waterfalls, if you are looking for an easy destination. I've also never seen an accurate estimate for the Kinlock Chute, but then, the difficulties in viewing the top of that waterfall might preclude getting any idea as to its full height.

Well, in that case, I'll just survey whatever waterfall I can get my grubby little hands on.

Yes, I'm going to carry a surveyor's compass in and come out with some moderately accurate measures of how tall some waterfalls are. My main concern is knowing which waterfall I'm surveying....... .

Smiley

Anyway, I'm gone and if anyone is around Brushy Lake next week, stop by and give me a holler. I'll be the one in a blue Astro van with a Were Wolf plate on the front and the soaked floppy looking hat on my head....

Actually, if someone wants to go with us and help me identify which waterfall I'm surveying, they'll be quite welcome....

Grph!

I didn't have enough people at the campout to allow me to get away from my host responsibilities so that I could do any surveys. Maybe I can plan to get with some Alatrails people sometimes specifically to do some surveys (the problem, being that my days of carrying a pack are past). I'm willing to work something out, though. I got the equipment specifically for that purpose.
