Just wanted to let everyone know of a new set of trails that eventually are supposed to link up to the AT when it is extended south to Flagg mountain in Coosa County Alabama. We hiked them this weekend and they are real nice. The trail was recently finished except for posting signs. It is located in Sylacauga Alabama and its name is Sylaward trail. It is mountain bike and hiker friendly. The main portion of this trail is easy one kids can easily do and winds past creeks and the watershed lake close by named Lake Howard. The AT can be reached from here but it isn't by a marked or cleared trail by no means, but eventually it is my understanding that it will link up with the AT making this probably the southern most place available for access, and might i add the area where you enter and park is monitored by local police making it a safe place for your cars.
