Pully and I (and maybe others) will be camping at Brushy Lake tomorrow night and possibly Sunday night but we will probably be a little more aggressive and go into Quillan, Parker, Eagle, or North Caney Creek both days.  Ya'll are welcome to join us as well.  Who from Flickr are you going with?

We are going to go saturday to check out a different way into the falls off of rush creek tributary. Since it is across the road from Holmes Chapel(.35 as the crow flies) I am pretty sure the old road will take you right to it. I will let you know tomorrow night if you guys wanna try  to go to it. Its at least as  tall as Holmes Chapel, but is more open around it for a clearer shot.

I found 6 new waterfalls this week that I had never seen before.  One of these is an unique "Natural Bridge" water fall.  Or that's what it's going to be one day.

That waterfalls are going to be doing VERY well if it did as good up in the northern part of the state as it did in the southern part. It came down. I wouldn't be suprised if some places got 10+ inches or more.

On the Cranal road, park at the second pulloff past the Bunyan Hill Road on the right going toward Sipsey .  Drop off into the drainage on the right and there's a waterfall before you even get half way down.  Once at the main stream, turn up stream and there's a waterfall up each hollow.  Of course some of them are seasonal so enjoy them while you can.

The ones I posted are in the second hollow to the right as you go upstream and the big one, Cranal Falls, according to my father-in-law, is at the end of the boxed canyon.  You'll pass a couple of old whiskey still sites also.  The stream, though seasonal, is beautiful also.

Downstream about a 1/2 mile are three old stills right together on the stream bank.  In just a short distance I found 6 still sites from the parking place.

This stream empties into Borden about half way between Sipsey and the curved bridge.

I'd say I timed my camping trip a week early but I don't think my guests would have appreciated the level of rain we've had this week. I envy you folks who are going this weekend, though.

Very nice pictures. And those in your other albums aren't bad either.  Thanks for sharing.  We share a love for waterfalls it seems but then almost everybody loves waterfalls.

Frankly, I'm amazed at how nonchalant people in that area are about waterfalls. I didn't see a single thing about waterfalls in Brushy Lake Campground in the writeups and when I get there I find four solid waterfalls (two outright gorgeous), and then, if you walk up the hill from the campground there's a knockout beautiful waterfall in the woods. Locals certainly know about it. One of the other Howlers and I drug half a trashbag of garbage out of the splash basin. Hmmm....I just remembered...... we didn't get the tire......

Bankhead is called the land of a thousand waterfalls, I'm wondering if there is anywhere with more per square mile.

My Bride and i went to cranal falls today, I would highly recommend everyone go see it! The area is full of hardwoods, very few pines, been a while since this was logged.  I have never seen so many still sights in one area. Here is a link to my blurry pictures

Thanks Uncle Wayne we really enjoyed it.

You're very welcome.  I'm glad you got to visit the area.  Good pictures, thanks for posting the link.

Did you see the old steel cable in the logging road downstream?  I'll bet it's 100 feet long or longer, stretched out in the old roadbed, left by loggers in the late 30's or early 40's when the area was logged.

Did you see the old steel cable in the logging road downstream?

I've seen one at a location south of Hurricane Creek on top of a 100'+ bluff.

Also, I finally got around to uploading my Hurricane Creek photos. Great place to visit after a rain, but be prepared for several creek crossings and the hike can be strenuous.
