Wow, that's a new one on me.  The canned bacon I had some years back was a nightmare to get out of the can and unroll, and you're right it was unbelievably salty.  It came from Poland, or some ex-Eastern Bloc country.

why do you need a whole chicken in a can in the first place?

Nothing wrong with the smaller, backpacker sized Chicken of the Sea chicken in a can is there  ...  ??  OH, woops ...........  that is really tuna?

Oh well, you know what I mean. Can't remember what brand it is other than Great Value.

Ed,

That is exactly what I said. Why bother with the skin, bones, and other assorted items, when you could just can that volume of meat?

Whole chicken? Chopped chicken yes, but not whole. I've had all the canned meats at some point or other (and I do mean all)... they're very salty with a hint of the original meat flavor. They're also higher in fat and heavier than jerky. But for people like me, who are striving for early cardiac disease, go for it. Triscuts, deviled ham, and cheddar cheese is a great little snack for on the trail or at camp.
