Quillan Creek and cool days in July

When I heard on Friday that the high for Saturday was 80 degrees, I emailed my sweetheart (I am not married) and we planned a trip to Sipsey. We decided to go down Riddle Creek to Quillan Creek.
I just recently bought my first GPS (Garmin eTrex HCx) and hadn't exactly figured it all our yet, but I gave it a try and all worked out well. We got a late start but since it is July it doesn't get dark till late so that didn't matter. We parked the truck on the NW Road at noon and started south. The weather was really great. That area had a good unofficial trail a few years ago but it has suffered significant blow-down damage so it is not as friendly as it once was. There was some water in Riddle Creek, but not lots. The three waterfalls were trickles.
When we did reach Quillan creek about 2 o'clock it was low enough to walk up the creek. We didn't go too far (300 yards?) up the creek, but did enjoy the scenery. There was hog sign everywhere. As expected (I had only been there once before) there were lots of big trees and tall cliffs. It is a peaceful place.
We ate lunch there and headed back. We got back to the truck between 4:30 and 5. It was a good day. Sunday morning I figured out how to unload the trip data into my computer, so I guess I am getting ready for Fall hiking.

Lemme see about pictures. I almost never go to Bankhead without my camera, but I did this time for three reasons - I hiked most of this trek about 3 months ago and took a lot of pictures; I knew I would be playing with the new GPS; and I knew that Sweetheart would have her camera. She took lots of pictures so I will get some from her soon.

Yea. I agree. I have told Sweetheart twice that peope want to see those pictures. Maybe in a few days. Her and I have actually been busy with a big birthday party with her family two weekends ago and a big cook-out this past weekend at my place (it rained so we all got cozy in the garage), and church on Wednesday nights and canning tomatoes one night and whittling a few afternoons, and (this is a poor excuse I know) watching the Braves
. But I will have them one day. Maybe this week.
