Thanks jaybird, very interesting article.  Don't skip the comments after the story.

"It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it while you can, while it is still there. So go out there and hunt and fish and mess around.  Ramble out yonder, explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air. Sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space.  I promise you this one sweet victory, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by calculators. : you will outlive the bastards." great article! Thanks for the link. By the way, here's a link to Benton Mackaye's article which started the AT movement:

Is it me or has the Appalachian Trail been getting a lot more press since the Mark Sanford debacle? I'm not complaining as press is press. But it is funny that more people may start utilizing this great trail because of the public indiscretions of a legislator.

I'm all for press, but I'm really sad that "hiking the Appalachian" is now a euphemism for...(insert favorite euphemism here).
