I think it would be interesting to see how much time various members are able to spend experiencing the Bankhead personally. I wish I could spend more. I never tire of going there. Even though it is only an hour from where I live, it can be difficult carving out enough time in my schedule to go and enjoy that special place.

For sure, too many people, trash, and car campers can be a pain in the butt. However, for the most part, at my favorite places, none of those three things are present. I am thankful that are still are places close to home where I can go and feel as though I am the only human being around.

I rarely see anyone at the places where I go. And if I do they are always friendly - well almost always

I completely agree. It's rare to see someone else unless you're on the most popular trails then, you may see a couple people. I'm actually glad to see at least one person sometimes.

We are there just about every weekend except during the summer heat, rarely do we see anyone. The vast majority of the people stay in the sipsey recreation-borden creek area, with a few that advance to the shiprock-bigtree area. So you let them have that and you have the rest of the forest all to yourself.

I organize a 9 day campout there in March and I'll usually turn up there a few more days during the year.

Ironically, I almost *always* see other people in Sipsey whenever I go with a group, but *never* see anybody on solo hikes.
Every trip to Turkey Creek has run into other people, and when we did the group hike to Eagle/Little Ugly we ran into a large group of geocachers. The other two times I went there alone I didn't see a soul. Then again, my preferences for hiking mean that I often run into other photogs. Like the day a group from Flickr and I independantly went to check out the Kinlock Chute waterfall.

I have never ever run into anyone at Turkey Creek. I think it is a bit strange, since it is so easily accessible from the road or from the parking lot. I suspect most folks don't have a clue that it even exists or don't know how easy it is to get to.

I tried it last time there. I didn't make it far, tall steep banks, no discernible trail.

We are talking about Turkey Foot Canyon at the Rec Area right? There is a trail that goes under the bridge. It's a well worn trail; There are even 3 at one point. One trail crosses at Turkey Foot Falls and continues on that side of the creek to Mize Mills Falls. The other trail continues on the left side of the creek to Mize Mills. There is a trail that takes you to the top of Mize Mills Falls to view the old mill site. There is also a trail that goes on top of Turkey Foot Falls and continues up that creek. You'll come to a hog wallow site when the creek goes under a boulder.
There is also a Turkey Creek in east Bankhead that runs into Capsey Creek.

I realize now that Josh was talking about Turkey Creek. I must have been half asleep or something because I mistakenly thought he was talking about Turkey Foot Creek. I indeed was talking about Turkey Foot Creek. I assume Josh was talking about Turkey Creek exactly as he posted. Thanks Pully for pointing out the two separate creeks with similar names.

I'm pretty sure Josh was talking about the same creek you were. I was just making a point that there is a worn trail there.
I haven't heard anything about Turkey Creek. hm, that one might need investigating in the Winter.

I was talking about Turkey FOOT Creek, I just goofed. There IS also a TURKEY CREEK elsewhere, but I think it is uninteresting?.?.?
Turkey Foot is probably under-visited for its location (NOT a bad thing) , but I almost always see at least one other group there. There are decent trails there, although the first few thousand feet are not as well worn (immediately after the bridge) as some other parts.
