Ride or Die

« on: August 07, 2009, 07:53:55 AM »

I would love for there to be alternate lines or freeride skill add-ons to Swayback. Downed trees would be a good start to test your balance, especially across a ditch or gap.

So, I am offering my time and labor to anyone who is willing to front some wood and their time to construct some ladder bridges, drops, teeter totters (the one that was up there was broke the last time I rode), logs, etc.

I have been doing some research and have started building my first ladder bridge 1 ft high, 1 ft wide just to play around on in the backyard. Next I would like to build one 2 ft high, 3 ft, etc. and link them together, then might build a teeter...

Here is a link to a lot of freeride information:

Also, if you feel like driving to Cullman, check out Hurricane Creek Park! Looks like they're the host with the most when it comes to wooden obstacles in Alabama: http://hurricanecreek.homestead.com/MTB.htmlhttp://hurricanecreek.homestead.com/MTB.html

And some pics I took while I was there: http://www.singletracks.com/mountain-bike/photo-album.php?tag=Mikee_Bimmerman&view=user

I hope this can inspire some people to come out and start building something special! I'm up for the task!

Ride or Die

Wow. A year after I join this "community" and there has only been 10 threads created, including this one.

After 1 weekend there have been 29 views on this thread and no one has cared to comment. That's a good bit of views, and no one has anything to say about this? For it or against it? Any "freeriders" out there?

IS THIS SITE DEAD???

Hey Mikee Bimmermann!

I have to admit I know nothing about freeriding, but was intriqued by some plank-work I saw on the new Sylaward bike trail in the Talladega National Forest over near Sylacauga this Spring.  This trail is open to hikers and bikers.  I happened to be out there biking with my ancient Cannondale mountain bike when I came across the fancy technical stuff.  I'm more of a hiker, as I love photography -- and frequently need to stop and smell the roses.  I was purely biking for the exercise.  However, I'd be interested to hear of your adventures and pictures in freeriding here.

Have you been on the Sylaward trail?

Hey guys! Thanks for the comments. As far as the pics go, the most I've uploaded I included a link to in the first post (Hurricane Creek Park).

I realise that a majority of the people here are older than I am and may not be that into the wild stuff.

jaybird, I have not been on that trail. I'll have to put it on my "to ride" list...

I finished my 10' x 1' x 1' ladder bridge yesterday. It's pretty good for a first attepmp, I guess. I plan on building a few more and somehow linking them together, eventually...

This sounds like fun. Me and two of my buddies would be down I'm sure. Let me know. I have a new skill-saw i want to try out.
