Such cool little creatures. They really do get no respect.

Yeah that works better.  Thanks for that link.  Allison in the video works out of the Double Springs office.  She's the one who gave me an advanced warning of the cave closure coming to the Bankhead.

That is a cool video.

I have never met Allison, but have talked to her on the phone more than once regarding birding in Bankhead. She is very nice and real smart.

The state of Alabama Dept of Conservation guy is Keith Hudson. I know Keith. He was my contact for some Bald Eagle nest observations/reporting I did earlier this year. He is a good guy also. He was real interested when I sent him an eagle report back in April and reported that I observed/photographed an Eastern Red Bat one evening. Here is a picture I took of that bat. It is sorta hard to make out what is what with the bat, but I watched it fly up and light in a cedar bush and after I took some pictures I watched it fly away.

I guess bats are cool, but I prefer observing woodpeckers or eagles.

I've never been able to get a picture of a bat that wasn't inside a cave.  Good job.

Thanks Uncle Wayne. Apparently Eastern Red bats are creatures of the woods more than caves. They hang by one leg so that they will appear as a fruit hanging on a tree to fool predators.

A little more about Eastern Red Bats. I am sure they are among the 13 species of bats in Bankhead.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Red_Bat

The only reason I was lucky enough to get that picture was because I was sitting or standing in the woods for 90 minutes twice a week with binoculars and camera watching an eagle's nest trying to decide if it had baby eagles in it. During that process I did observe lots of cool birds and that one bat.

And BTW, that nest produced one young female eagle that fledged somewhere around early June.
