I just have to share this recipe for a supper easy, high carb, feast for the trail that only takes 1 cup of boiling water.   When Im going out on the trail ill take the noodles and dehydrate them "after" I cook them,  that will make them rehydrate a lot quicker on the trail.  I will also cut up the noodles in to smaller pieces so they will pack tighter.   If you dont have a dehydrator just pick up some rice noodles at the store, they work just as great for this and will hydrate in a flash with some boiling water.  I take the sauce for this recipe and put it in a small sallad bottle and the recipe makes enough for 6 - 8 servings depending on how much sauce you want.  This is light weight and filling and full of carbs.  And I just dont get tired of it either.

FOR THE SAUCE:

¼ cup sesame oil
1 cup black soy sauce
2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons hot chili oil
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1 ½ pounds fresh vermicelli or angel hair pasta
½ cup sesame seeds, toasted - keep this in a baggie by them selves.

In a large bowl, whisk together sesame oil, soy sauce, sugar, chili oil, and vinegar.    Thats it... put it in a light weight container and your good to go.

depending on your noodle choice, I have used both angel hair and the rice noodles, both work great.  On the trail rehydrate your noodles and splash on a some sauce to taste and a sprinkle of some of those sesame seeds..   Man oh Man...   good good!

for guys like me who don't want the bother of cooking and dehydrating, would basic ramen noodles be a 1/2 decent sub. for the real pasta with the sauce ?

I actually think that it would be pretty good with the ramen noodles.   having the sesame seeds to sprinkle on is the key.  The sauce give the flavor but the sesame seeds give the interesting texture and contrast.
