I did not have time in my schedule to go to BNF or other of my favorite spots, so I got up and went hiking locally.  I was only gone about 2-1/2 hours but it was very enjoyable.  I hiked around the area of Wildwood Park over on Cypress Creek.  It was beautiful this morning.  This park has many large old trees.  I saw a poplar tree that was about 12' in circumference.  I saw at least 7 very good sized deer.  They must have heard me coming, and off they went.  With most of the leaves gone now, I was able to watch them for quite a while until they finally made it out of the hollow they were climbing.  I went down beside the bluff along Cypress Creek looking for caves.  I didn't find any of any size, but I did have a great surprise.  I saw a huge bald eagle flying along the bluff above the creek.  It must have had a 6 foot wing span.  It was absolutely awesome.  I didn't see or hear any other people the entire time I was in the woods.  It is amazing that you can see such beauty and experience nature while inside the city limits.  Hundreds of people go by this park everyday, but don't ever stop to discover what is there.  I look forward to my next local hike.

Cool stuff Pathfinder. I think it's awesome to explore around where you live. Its nice to just "get out" sometimes. I've been both frustrated & rewarded for hiking areas that aren't as popular as the well known ones. Thanks for sharing this with everyone. Good on you mate!

I've driven by Wildwood Park several times, but never stopped.  I'll have to make a note of it next time.  I've also wanted to drop by Key Cave NWR, is it worth the visit?
