The Alabama Department of Transportation is proposing a new toll road to connect I-65 and I-10 in Baldwin County. The proposed route of the "Baldwin Beach Express" will effectively destroy the last wildlife corridor in Baldwin County, skirt the new properties purchased and protected by Forever Wild, and limit proposed new hiking areas in the county.

A "Public Involvement Meeting" meeting about this is scheduled for tomorrow night, Tuesday, Dec 15 from 4:30 to 7 p m in Bay Minette at the John F. Rhodes Civic Center, 301 D'Olive Street, Bay Minette, AL. If you can make it, please do so and voice your opposition to the road!

If you can't make it, the county will accept written opinions by email for 10-days after the meeting. You can send your letter to  vbeebe@co.baldwin.al.us

Thank you for your support in this matter. Let's protect what's left of Baldwin County's rapidly diappearing wild areas!

"It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it while you can, while it is still there. So go out there and hunt and fish and mess around.  Ramble out yonder, explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air. Sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space.  I promise you this one sweet victory, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by calculators. : you will outlive the bastards."
