How are the trails in Auburn? I believe it is Chewacla park. Are there any long trails, or just the one going to the cascades?

The only one I have been to is the one behind the dam, it is very short. I am curious to other trails in the area as well.

been awhile since I was there, but there are a few trails that form a loop around the park I believe, not terribly long, but you can spend a few hours there. for a description see http://www.alapark.com/chewacla/Trails/

Auburn is not too far from Tuskegee NF and I assume there are some longer trails there, but I've not investigated ... yet.

I don't know of any long trails around Chewacla. There are some nice dayhikes, though. There are some longer trails in Tuskegee - like the afore mentioned Bartram.

I found this:

There is an interesting network of developed trails out on wire road but I've forgotten what they're called. It's a park but it has some interesting botanical points.

If you're interested in urban trails, there's a day long trail that runs from Riverview to Shawmut in Valley. There are some interesting points such as the swamps at the southern end (and there's a trail behind the mill in Riverview to the old dam and powerhouse) and the gorge at Langdale.

Also, Pine Mountain isn't far at all and the Pine Mountain trail is well worth the visit. It is long enough for back packing.

Auburn Forest Ecology Preserve

This is a nice small preserve, complete with trails and an orienteering challenge course.  Nice for some day hiking.  Watch for ticks in warmer weather.
