I know most of us are animal lovers here and love to bring our dogs in the trail with us. I've seen everything from dachshunds to great danes. I've never witnessed this though. How the heck do you get a cat to behave on a backpacking trip?

Cats are actually very trainable. I dont think many take the time to do it though.  I have 1 (of 4) that could be trained to ride the pack top, but as I said, whos going to take the time!!

I guess the best question I can offer is: why? The cat probably isn't enjoying itself.

Dogs are pack animals with following/leading instincts that clearly derive at least some enjoyment from travelling on foot with humans. Cats... not so much.

That's for posting it, I'm always curious as to what stupid human tricks people are up to. Wink

When i take the dogs for a walk the cat usually follows from a distance. I take the dogs quite a ways from the house and Im always afraid the cat is gonna get lost. Maybe it would follow us down a trail? Cats are weird.

The cat, I might be able to tolerate, but that umbrella gouging me in the back of the head or neck would be intolerable!

there was a a guy in Model-T's book (and frequent WB poster, Geek) that took his cat on his AT thru-hike in 91. He was great at cleaning out the shelters of mice.

I'm all for cats cleaning out the shelters! I'm not for feral cats cleaning out the shelters.

Can you say "Haunta Virus"? Smiley
