We knew we had to get in shape for our upcoming pinhoti hike. So our neighbors told us they were doing a 5:00 am workout in their basement every day. We were like "Sure, We need to get back in the habit of getting up early and we got this big hike coming up we need to lose a few pound for." Well....
It is absolutely nuts. If I had known how crazy it was from the beginning I would have not done it. I am really glad i don't watch a lot of tv cause if i had seen the infomercial before week 2 it would have scared the crap out of me. Anyhow. here is the the ten minute rundown of today's workout. This guy recorded himself doing it and played it back at high speed. He is in much better shape than i am. This was the same workout I started this series on and it made me hurl after the warmup.

I can honestly say this is the hardest thing I have ever done physically. I am proud of how far I have come in so little time. I am on week 3 day 2  and I did about the same amount of the workout as the guy in the vid. Just so you know even the instructor can't do the whole thing all the way through without breaks.

As I watch this, I'm getting really concerned for the cat. A few close calls there.  Grin

Here is the abbreviated version of todays workout.

I can say that after every workout I feel great. I can also say that waking up and forcing myself to do this jazz does not get any easier. There is a stoke afterwards though. We are rounding out week 3 and really starting to notice definite changes in our bodies. Weight loss has been slow but muscle building is quick. After this, hiking will be easy. I feel stronger than I have in 15 years.

I had a workout like that once. Then I decided I should never ever piss off the Drill Instructor again.  Grin

IMO its a major accomplishment to have stuck with that work out for as long as you have. As I grow older I have found for me that some of these insane workouts in the long run can be counterproductiv e. Primarily because as the level of difficulty increases the liklihood that I will stick with it diminishes exponentially.

Also some of the crazy exercise regimens I indulged in during my 20's are more than likely the cause of many of my aches and pains now in my late 30's. I spent nearly all of my 20's trying to be Mr. Universe. Spent way too many hours in the gym and tons of money. All I have to show for it is a herniated disc, and discomfort in my knees and shoulders whenever I try to actually use them.

Right now I am trying to stay in hiking shape by hiking. Besides the dog needs a good walk early in the AM so he will stay out of trouble while everyone's away. So at 5 AM I load up the pack with about 40 lbs, lace up the hiking boots and head out for a brisk 2 mile walk. We've got some pretty decent hills in the neighborhood and 2 miles is really all I have time for. Besides 2 miles is in line with the point I made in the first paragraph. Also I try to wear the crappiest socks I own because I find that my feet give out well before my heart whenever I'm hiking.  Hopefully these 2 mile morning hikes around the neighborhood will at least toughen my feet up a little if nothing else. So far it seems to be working.

My wife says someone is going to call the cops because I look like a vagrant out there walking around the neighborhood in the dark with a backpack on.

Good luck with the rest of your work out.
