Like the subject states, I am in need of a shuttle from Jackson Chapel trailhead to north fs500 trailhead. I plan on going next weekend Feb. 27 or the following weekend March 5. I will buy you breakfast and pay the going rate for services.

I am leading a Sierra Club hike from Salem Church Road to the Jackson Chapel trailhead on Saturday the 27th.  We will be hiking from S to N, and should arrive at Jackson Chapel around 3 p.m. central time.  I could shuttle you back to FS 500 at that time, if it's not too late for you.  We meet at the Target in Oxford, just off I-20, so we'll be headed back that way anyhow.  You can send me a PM if this is suitable for you, and we'll work out the details.

I'm sorry the post should have stated that I need the shuttle for Fri. 26th or the next Fri., I have to be at school on Mon. and I don't think I want to do those two sections in two days. Thanks for the offer, if I can't find a shuttle this weekend, If I can I may tag along with you guys and check out the area. I noticed you guys had a good time this weekend at Cheaha. I will be making one of the Pinhoti challenge hikes soon.

I have a shuttle lined up tomorrow afternoon. I have a question about the location of the Jackson Chapel trailhead. I will be dropping my car off at dusk or dark. Is the trailhead 3.8 miles down Jackson Chapel Road? I see on Google maps that Jackson Chapel rd. splits at Old Jackson Chapel road. Is the trailhead off of Old Jackson Chapel rd. or the original road off of 411?

Too late for you  but, for others, if in doubt, go right.  The trail does not cross any main roads.  It becomes a road walk once it gets to the TH.  So, if you veer left you will have left one road between you and the TH.

It is on the original road, which turns to dirt just before the trailhead.

I found it the first time, I was a little weary when the road changed to dirt. Although we were on the trail by 8pm. I finished my AL. Pinhoti hike today, what a great experience it has been(still need to do the Rebecca Mountain section). I will make another a thread with pics. The hike was very nice today, with the temps in the 70's. We encountered loggers clearcutting the area around the trail right after the Salem Church Rd.. They may not have seen us, because they were steadily cutting trees while we were looking for the trail. It probably took us 20 minutes to get through that mess. I have pics of how bad it looks in that section.

Luke, we did Jackson Chapel to High Point this past weekend. The loggers weren't working Saturday but man what a mess. We ended up walking the "mud" road out to Salem and then picked the trail back up. Stayed at Davis Shelter Saturday night, wish i would have brought a steak though since someone had left a green egg grill and charcoal. Anyway congrats on finishing!

Yeah I saw the charcoal and things there, I tried to clean up the trash around the shelter while I was there. I left some wood to start a fire with. Was it still there? The sunset and sunrise from Davis shelter is unexplainably awesome. Did you read the shelter journal? BCM, decided to share some information that was pretty graphic. Thanks, finishing the Pinhoti was a nice accomplishment for me, now I plan to thru-hike sobo, in late spring to enjoy a different trail.

A big ATTABOY Luke for finishing.  Do Rebecca as soon as possible.  It is a narrow ridge trail that will be best when the leaves are off.
I thought they were through logging that area.  I and three others did the section just north of Davis Mountain Shelter when they were logging that area.  It took all four of us to pick our way and find the trail again.  I did not think the trail could be salvaged but it was in pretty good shape the next time through.  I was thinking about doing that section and at least one other in a couple of weeks if I did not do a few days on the AT.  Looks like the AT is more probable than it was last week.
You'll definately find the trail looks different when headed in a different direction.  The really rocky section south of Adams and west of the FS road is a bear when headed north.  I did not find it tough when headed south.  And of course, the south end sloap of Cheaha is much easier going down the boulders than going up them.

I posted some pics of the logging in the trail conditions section.

Yeah, I feel like the trail will be easier going south also. I am not looking forward to the rock garden, either way, my feet still hurt thinking about it. It will be nice to see some leaves on the trees and the flowers budding. I am deciding on how many drops I want to make for food and stuff, and where. Thinking about dropping supplies at Pine Glen and Cheaha.

I plan to do the Rebecca Mountain section soon. I went out and worked on the Flag Mountain trail yesterday with ATA. Pastor Pete and Rick, were talking about the plans for Rebecca. The Laurel bushes are already budding and there is some color starting to show on the trail.

AHTS is the group they represent (Alabama Hiking Trail Society.)  ATA is a different group.

Oops, didn't mean to do that. Yep, it was AHTS (Alabama Hiking Trail Society).

I came to the store two weeks ago, I bought some gaiters and checked out the pack selection. I need to bring my gear in and get sized for a internal pack soon. Are you guys having a sale anytime soon?

Rick spearheads most of the trailwork and gets alot of people motivated and working!  No sale soon, but do start looking at packs so that when you hit a sale you know exactly what you want and don't miss out!!

Make sure to get sized properly too!

Luke, yes I did leave graphic details.  I didn't want anyone picking up those rocks.  It was a bad night.  I was surprised that I made it to the ATA shelter on the Georgia side of Flag Pole Mountain the next day and into Cave Springs the day after.  My problem continued until I drank 2 gallons of water per day for 2 days after getting home.  Hydration is an issue I need to learn to deal with.  I have also added Immodium AD to my First Aid Kit.

Lol, I made sure to watch my step around the shelter after reading that. Glad you got to feeling better.
