The cave ban put in force in May of 2009 which includes all caves on National Forest Service property in Alabama was for one year initially.  As we get closer to the anniversary, does anyone have any definitive update on whether the cave ban will be lifted or extended come May?

I haven't been caving before, besides Desoto, and was going to check some out this year. Better do it before May huh. I hope the disease doesn't spread here, we really don't need a rise in our bug population. What other consequences would this disease bring, other than the bat population decreasing by 90%?

That is on the agenda for the next Bankhead Forest Liaison meeting sometimes in April.  I'll  post an update as to the exact meeting date etc when I receive the notice.

"It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it while you can, while it is still there. So go out there and hunt and fish and mess around.  Ramble out yonder, explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks, run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air. Sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space.  I promise you this one sweet victory, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by calculators. : you will outlive the bastards." Any update on the cave ban?  I know the ban was announced on 5/21/09 and was originally scheduled for one year.
