Open season in the BNF began on March 1st and go through the 12th.  Two of my friends have already killed 2 big sows.

So if you are out and about in the BNF this weekend, be careful and don't look like a wild hog!


Final numbers not in yet from all districts but the total so far not as good as they had hoped.  Only 48 turned in to the check in station.  My friend told me the ones that were reported were all larger than last year.  Some field dressed still weighed almost 200 pounds.

Hmmm, was considering hiking and/or maybe camping depending on the weather.  I'll have to keep this in mind.  Maybe I should play my harmonica obnoxiously to keep the hunters away?

That will probably work.  The hunters are not required to remove the hogs so that allows the hunters to go places they normally wouldn't go.  All the FS asks if you kill one is to bring in it's tail to help them keep an as accurate as possible count on the number of hogs taken.

With all that rotting ham lying around? I don't think so....

Hmmm...I try to schedule the Howl to start as the hog hunt is ending and be over before the next (what is it? Turkeys?) begins. Looks like I nailed it again. And maybe the spring cycle has started and they'll have the showers on. I surely do hope so.

My friend at the FS said the hog hunt so far was much better than last year.  He didn't remember the exact number but it had already exceeded last year's total reported take.  There are several more taken not reported I'm sure.

After all the hog sign I saw yesterday in prime wildflower turf at Scott's Gulf I hope they are successful in Sipsey. Guess I should check when hog season is around these parts.
