Fact Sheet: Contact Senators Shelby And Sessions Re: $95,000 Needed To Construct The Pinhoti Trail On Rebecca Mountain South of Bull GapOn Friday, February 26, both the Alabama Hiking Trail Society and the Alabama Trails Association submitted appropriations requests to Senators Shelby and Sessions. The requests seek $95,000 in Federal U.S. Forest Service funding to construct the uncompleted portion of the Pinhoti Trail in the Talladega National Forest that lies south of Bull Gap (Alabama Highway 148). Part of the trail will be constructed on the 1,168-acre tract of land on Rebecca Mountain that was purchased and added to the Talladega National Forest last year.
Constructing this portion of the Pinhoti Trail is key to bringing the Pinhoti to the southern end of the Talladega National Forest and to reaching the goal of having the Pinhoti Trail reach its Southern Terminus at Flagg Mountain in Weogufka State Forest. It is also key to replacing an 11.4-mile road walk with a hike along a high ridge with outstanding views.
It would be a great help for individuals to send letters to Senators Shelby and Sessions asking them to support this $95,000 item for the Pinhoti Trail.
Suggested letters to each Senator are attached. Due to the problems in getting hard copy mail through security in Washington, you should type and sign the letters and then scan and pdf them and send as attachments to an email.
