The Pinhoti Trail will be my first hike. I thought it would be a good idea to buy the guide http://www.pinhotitrailal...org/pocketguideorder.html. It has been about a week and haven't heard back from or received the guide. I was wondering if anyone had some helpful information or new a way to contact someone about the guide. Thanks.

It took almost two weeks for mine to come in. I wouldn't worry about it, I had the same thoughts and couldn't find anyway to contact Hugh. The next day my guide was in the mailbox. He may make them by order or something.

Thanks for the reassurance. However were leaving friday 3/12/10 for the trail. A phone number for this guy would be invaluable. Did you find the guide crucial to your overall hike or did it provide more comforting confidence than actual vital information? Thanks.

Go to http://www.pinhotitrailalliance.org/  Solo has most of the guide available through his site map.  Pick the section you are interested in and print it out.  I used that site and the printable information exclusively untill the pocket guide was developed.  The guide is easier but all you need is available through his site map..  Solo is reliable so do not loose faith in him.  The Pocket Guide and all the other work he puts in is a side effort for him so he might not have been able to get it out yet.  He'll feel worse than anyone else if the pocket guide issue adversely impacts your hike.

When you go to the PTA site, you will see the snail trail links on the left side. I liked having the guide as far reference points and names of things. Have fun..

Hey Guys!

Sorry!!
Yes, I print them as they come in, until this year. It had threatened to take over my life, so I decided to collect all the orders until the weekend, print, and then mail out on monday. Obviously this hasn't worked out, so now I print a batch on the weekend and mail out as they come in. Really sorry and really hope this works better.

P. S. Check out this trailhead sign that the Appalachian Trail Club of Alabama (Van Phillips) made and donated to the Alabama Trails Association for Section 13. This one is at the northern terminus, Jackson Chapel Trailhead. There is a matching one for the southern terminus, High Point Trailhead. Gene Padgham and I put them both up yesterday. It's on the PTA Homepage. Click on the link below my signature.

Solo, you defiantly came through! The ole' trail guide taped onto the post tricked worked great. We hiked about 4 more miles and ended up staying at "the chicken ladies" campsite.
This was my first but will most certainly not be my last trip. Night hiking was fun but a bit spooky. woohoo!

Glad everything worked out OK!

Ha Ha - I remember when the "chicken lady" campsite was first set up. Without knowing it, the location displaced a Bobcat and for months she, he would come by screaming everytime someone camped there. Scared the crap out of everybody : ) Too bad you missed that!!

The folks at the trail clubs are glad you enjoyed your hike, hope you'll come back many, many times.
