9 days on the trail

I am letting the cat out of the bag. Lesley and I are going to attempt a 9 day thruhike of the Alabama Portion of the Pinhoti starting this Saturday. We are starting at Bull gap and plan on being at Cheaha for a little downtime monday night. These are the only definite plans we have as the rest of the trip we will be pushing hard to make the state line. We might run into a few of you along the way.

I'm off for spring break next week and will be alll over the area scouting, hiking and doing this and that for the overnighter on the 20/21, so if you have any issues (injuries, weather, etc.) or need transportation, give me a call. My parents live in Sylacauga, so I'll be using their home as basecamp next week. My cell is 205-907-6879.

If any of you cheaha, north, pinhoti folks need a shuttle, rescue pickup, supplies, ect. give me a call. I'm about 15-20 mins away. I live 2 mi. from the co road 24 crossing. and can assist if needed. 256-453-3775 . I'm off or will be close by most of the week. I would be glad to help if you need anything. Carl W.

Have a great time Matt! I hope you and Lesley have a ball.
Dewey Bear and I will continue our Pinhoti section hike in Georgia, hopefully covering the 70 miles from the Summerville to Dalton over 6 days starting Sunday. We'll be thinking about you.

See you next Sunday, wherever that may be!!

Ok so we cut the trip a little short due to some minor health related issues brought on by the crummy weather and pushing a bit too hard. We left pine glen around 3 today. Full report and lots of goodies to come.

Too bad, about the problems, hope you had a good time. I was thinking yesterday that you guys would finally have some good weather this weekend to end the trip.

No big. We hiking over 90 miles. Had some really great times and got to see a lot of things that not a lot of people get to see. 5 days of cold and rain can really put a hurting on your joints though. Especially when you are pushing out 20 mile days. The trail is not going any where. We will finish soon.

20 miles a day!
Wow...
Sorry to hear about the weather-induced health issues, but you're right, the trail will wait. Trust that you two had a great time though anyway. Looking forward to the trail report and "goodies".

Actually we only did one 20 miler. It was quite by accident. Once we passed over the train tracks at the lower shoal work office we discovered there was not a lot of camping till you got to a bird in the pines. SO we had a pretty long push right at the end of the day that we thought would be a lot shorter.

I want to say you and your girl were a few of the people my group (Jessica, Keith, Christina, and Caleb) ran into at the lodge. We ended our trek friday morning. The weather defiantly put a damper on everyone that trip!
