If your in south Alabama, there is the Conecuh trail. There are a many options around the Montgomery area.

Sorry, been away a while. I live in the Mobile area...besides Chickasabogue Park, are there any good places to hike other than going up to b'ham? Conecuh sounds like a good spot. Thanks for any suggestions

Melonhead,

I think we are in the same situation. I live in west Mobile and have not found any good places to hike around here. I have been taking weekend trips to north Alabama recently. Conecuh area sounds good like a good place to start and is a closer.

Yeah, we're in the same boat. Hopefully making a trip to Conecuh sometime this summer.

There are some great trails at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge on the Fort Morgan Peninsula.  Also, check out the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trails at Gulf State Park and the trails at Blakley State Historical Park.

Better and easier to reach is part of the Florida Trail which starts about 10 miles east of Milton, Florida near hwy 90 in the Blackwater River State Park and goes north about 40 miles to the Alabama line.  You can  road walk from there to Conecuh.  There are plenty of road crossings if needed, hiking along the Juniper Creek, going around Huricane Lake, wire grass trail, and so on.  Go to the Florida Trails Association or directly to Blackwater River state Park for more info.  To start with, go about 10 miles east of Milton on Highway 90 to the community of Harold and take a left (north) on Deaton Bridge Road.  Go to the Blackwater River State Park entrance.  Back track about 50 yards and you will see a sign pointing to the Juniper Creek Trail on the west side of Deaton Bridge Road.  Take that trail about 5 miles to a shelter and a small bluff overlooking Juniper Creek.  The water is clear and there are some nice sandbars there.  It is an easy out and back.
