There is a stand of Shoals Spider Lilies (AKA Cahaba Lily) accessible by trail near West Point, GA on Flat Shoals Creek. The trail is on private property but the owner has opened it up to the public for the last couple of weekends in May. It is a short Round trip of about 1 to 1.5 miles depending on how far up the creek you go. You start seeing Blooms at about .25 mile into the hike. It is an easy hike with the only difficulty being some loose sand on the banks of the creek that you can avoid and still see blooms. There are plenty of blooms for the pay off. I went yesterday with my son. It was a closer drive for us than driving to the Cahaba river due to our proximity to GA. In fact if I were a Crow I could fly at a heading of 7 degrees and be there in only 17 miles. So if you are like me and live more towards the Eastern edge of the state and want to see some Shoals Spider Lilies bloom this year. Then this may interest you.

I knew that they occurred in Georgia, but not where. Interesting.
